ALT 1 - Ethics and Laws

Students will understand the relationship between ethics and the law.

AST 1.1 - Describe Values  :  I can describe the role of values in constructing an ethical code and a legal system.

AST 1.2 - Identify Illegal Conduct  :  I can identify unethical and illegal conduct.

AST 1.3 - Compare Theories  :  I can compare various ethical theories and explain the way social forces may sometimes conflict, such as the golden rule, the greatest good principle, duty-based ethics, etc.

ALT 2 - Contract Law

Students will demonstrate an understanding of contract law.

AST 2.1 - Contractual Relationships  :  I can demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the contractual relationship and list the elements required to create a contract (offer, acceptance, genuine agreement, consideration, capacity and legality, legal purpose).

AST 2.2 - Various Offers  :  I can identify the various ways to create and terminate an offer.

AST 2.3 - Requirements of an Effective Acceptance  :  I can explain the requirements of an effective acceptance.

AST 2.4 - Requirements of Consideration  :  I can identify the requirements of consideration.

AST 2.5 - Recognize Lacking Parties  :  I can recognize parties who lack contractual capacity.

AST 2.6 - Identify Forms  :  I can identify various forms of unenforceable illegal agreements.

AST 2.7 - Statute of Frauds  :  I can explain the main instances when the Statute of Frauds requires writing.

ALT 3 - Protection Laws

Students will demonstrate an understanding of consumer protection laws.

AST 3.1 - Express Warranties  :  I can identify the requirements of express warranties that may apply to a sales transaction.

AST 3.2 - Implied Warranties  :  I can identify the requirements of implied warranties that may apply to a sales transaction.

AST 3.3 - Unfair Trade Practices  :  I can explain a variety of unfair trade practices.

AST 3.4 - Liability for Injuries  :  I can understand when manufacturers and sellers have product liability for injuries to consumers.

ALT 4 - Understanding LawsStudents will demonstrate an understanding of agency law and employment law.

AST 4.1 - Agency Relationships  :  I can identify the nature of an agency relationship and list the ways agency relationships may be created and terminated.

AST 4.2 - Explain Duties  :  I can explain the duties agents and principals owe each other.

AST 4.3 - Understanding Rights  :  I can demonstrate an understanding of employee rights (job interview, drug testing, background checks, justified and unjustified discrimination, laws affecting minors and collective bargaining).

AST 4.4 - Employment Rights  :  I can identify legislation and agencies that regulate employment rights, conditions and worker benefits (Americans with Disabilities Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Fair Labor Standards Acts, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and unemployment compensation).

ALT 5 - Landlord-Tenant Law

Students will demonstrate an understanding of landlord-tenant law.

AST 5.1 - Lease Creation and Termination  :  I can describe how a lease is created and terminated.

AST 5.2 - Understanding Legislation  :  I can demonstrate an understanding of legislation that regulates rental rights and conditions.

ALT 6 - Metacognitive SkillsApply and demonstrate key professional metacognitive skills to facilitate business success and to progress in business, marketing, sales, and service careers.

AST 6.1 - Collaboration  :  Students work effectively with others; respect diversity; are empathetic, cooperative, and willing to compromise; assume shared responsibility for group tasks; and communicate effectively in groups.

AST 6.2 - Communication  :  Students effectively communicate and listen through oral, written, visual, and nonverbal formats in both formal and information situations.

AST 6.3 - Leadership  :  Students inspire and influence others to achieve a common goal by capitalizing on strengths to coordinate tasks; motivating and guiding others; taking initiative and responsibility for outcomes; being decisive, assertive, and authoritative; developing others' skills; and negotiating conflict.

AST 6.4 - Self-Efficacy  :  Students are confident in their ability to obtain academic success; persist to overcome challenges; and are not defeated by failure.

AST 6.5 - Integrity  :  Students work in a systematic and organized fashion to develop precise and accurate products that comply with procedures and directions; have high standards; and maintain personal and academic integrity.

AST 6.6 - Adaptability  :  Students respond and adapt well to change; are comfortable with ambiguity; adjust priorities and thinking in response to change; manage pressure and setbacks; and maintain an optimistic outlook.
